SKI WITH US

CHARLES N. ROMERO
SKI PROGRAM

Want to learn to ski or snowboard this winter? We've got your gear, meals, transportation, and lessons, all free for Taos Indigenous youth, ages 6 to 18.

For many of our kids, it's their first time on the mountain. We make sure cost, gear, and a ride are never what stands in the way.

EVERYTHING’S COVERED

FREE FOR TAOS INDIGENOUS FAMILIES

No gear, no experience, and no cost required, just a willingness to try.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

WHAT YOUR KID WILL EXPERIENCE

A chance for Native youth from Taos to connect with the mountains, their peers, and their own potential. Tap to explore.

  • Professional lessons at Taos Ski Valley take youth from first turns to confident riding, all equipment, lift tickets, and meals included at no cost.

  • For many kids this is brand new. They feel the joy of trying something hard and gain confidence with every run.

  • Cohorts are grouped by age, creating space for shared experiences, fun, and lasting friendships.

  • Trained instructors, behavioral-health support from DHCS, and background-checked chaperones keep every kid safe.

  • Responsibility, teamwork, and communication, with pathways into peer-mentor and internship roles down the line.

  • Interns and staff, many Native and past participants, offer encouragement, guidance, and cultural connection.

THE LEGACY OF CHARLES N. ROMERO

1984 — March 13th, 2021

Charles was a Taos Pueblo tribal member and role model who broke barriers for Indigenous youth in the outdoor industry. He started at Taos Ski Valley in an entry-level role and, through dedication, rose to manage the ski rental shop — opening doors that had long been closed.

This program carries his name so that Taos Pueblo youth have access not just to skiing and snowboarding, but to mentorship, workforce pathways, and the self-confidence to walk through the same doors Charles once did.

For Older Youth · Ages 14–18
